The Affirmation of Heritage and the 1879 Frequency

If you found this page by searching for something like "Fundamentalist Mormon" or "original Mormon church" or "LDS remnant," you have already noticed that the institution bearing the name and the doctrine that name originally described are not the same thing. You are not wrong to notice that. The gap you are sensing is real, it is documented, and it has a specific date: 1890.

In 1879, the year the Record we study was compiled and the year John Taylor led the church at its doctrinal peak, Mormonism was a coherent and radical system. It taught a specific God โ€” embodied, exalted, the Father of our race. It practised a specific economy โ€” the United Order and the Law of Consecration. It held a specific political vision โ€” the Kingdom of the Elohim as a literal governing entity on earth. It was preparing, with deliberate intentionality, for the literal return of the presiding intelligence to his people at Adam-ondi-Ahman.

What the Salt Lake corporation teaches today is not that system. This page is about the distinction โ€” where the name "Mormon" legitimately belongs, what it meant before the revision, and why the Holy Order of the Elohim maintains the 1879 Frequency rather than following the institutional drift that began with the 1890 Manifesto.

The Stewardship of a Name

To understand our standing within the Holy Order of the Elohim and Jehovah, we must clarify our jurisdiction over this title. We acknowledge "Mormon" not as a corporate brand, but as a prophetic descriptor of a people gathered under the record of the Nephite prophet.

The Mormon Heritage Seal

To flee from the name is to obscure the history of the Sons of Ahman. While the modern LDS Church exercises its corporate prerogative to abandon the term, we maintain the Original Frequency. For us, "Mormon" represents a distinct lineage of priesthood, directly tethered to the God of our Race, Michael-Ahman. (D&C 128:8).

The Book of Mormon is the record that names us. It is the covenant document given to the Nephite remnant and their Gentile inheritors โ€” a witness of the Paternal Chain stretching from Michael-Ahman through Adam-ondi-Ahman to the final gathering. To be "Mormon" in the original sense is to be bound to that record, to the God it names, and to the people it gathers. It is not a denominational label. It is a covenantal identity.

The Holy Order does not use the name "Mormon" because it is popular or defensible in the public square. We use it because it is accurate โ€” and because accuracy in naming, as the Lexicon makes plain, is the first act of doctrinal integrity.

What Was Lost After 1890

The 1890 Manifesto โ€” the official declaration suspending the practice of plural marriage โ€” is typically presented as a doctrinal revelation. The Holy Order understands it differently. It was a legal and political capitulation to the federal government's sustained campaign against the institutional church's property and the personal freedom of its members. President Wilford Woodruff signed it under duress. The doctrinal framework that had governed the church since Joseph was not consulted โ€” it was simply suspended by administrative decision.

But plural marriage was not the only thing abandoned. What the 1890 transition actually ended was an entire governing philosophy. The United Order โ€” the covenantal economic system Joseph legislated โ€” had already been substantially dismantled by the 1880s. The Council of Fifty โ€” the political kingdom of the Elohim on earth โ€” was quietly dissolved. The distinction between the Elohim and Jehovah, so carefully maintained in the 1835 Doctrine and Covenants and the Lectures on Faith, was progressively collapsed into a Nicene-adjacent trinitarianism. By 1916, when the First Presidency issued its doctrinal exposition on "The Father and the Son," the theological architecture Joseph built had been substantially replaced.

A person who identified as Mormon in 1879 โ€” who studied the Lectures on Faith, who practised the United Order, who understood the distinction between Michael-Ahman and Son Ahman, who anticipated the literal gathering at Adam-ondi-Ahman โ€” would not recognise the institution that now bears the name. The Holy Order of the Elohim holds the 1879 Frequency precisely because that year represents the last fully articulated state of the original system before the revision accelerated. We are not innovating. We are maintaining.
