Who Do You Pray To?

"You can just worship how you feel is right" is not theology. It is the complete abandonment of theology. Faith requires a known object. You cannot pray effectively to a being you cannot name.

There is more theological confusion about the nature of God operating simultaneously in a single Latter-day Saint ward than in most other traditions combined. On any given Sunday you will find Trinitarian Christians who believe the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost are one being. You will find evangelical Protestants who pray to Jesus as God. You will find people who direct their worship at "Jehovah" without knowing whether they mean the Grand Jehovah of the governing Council or Son Ahman in his mediating role. You will find people who use "Heavenly Father" as a warmth-word for a being they have never precisely identified. And you will find people who have been told that this doesn't matter โ€” that you can worship how you feel is right.

Every one of these positions contradicts something Joseph Smith taught explicitly. The doctrine of the High Restoration is not vague on this question. The Macrocosmic Chain is precisely defined. The beings in it have specific names, specific natures, specific jurisdictions, and specific relationships to each other and to us. Correct being, wrong relationship. Son Ahman is the Mediator, not the Father. D&C 88:64 is precise: pray to the Father in the name of the Son. The name of Son Ahman is the legal instrument of access โ€” not the being you are accessing.

Grand Jehovah is the Executive of the Council of the Elohim โ€” a distinct office in the governing Chain above Michael-Ahman. Son Ahman holds the Jehovah function in his mediating role โ€” a functional identification, not an ontological one.
Two distinct offices collapsed into one to distance the institutional church from the Adam-God doctrine after 1890. The 1916 First Presidency exposition introduced this conflation without scriptural basis. It creates irresolvable contradictions in the Old Testament Jehovah narrative.

The Council of the Elohim โ€” a governing body of distinct, embodied intelligences operating in unified purpose but not unified substance. The Father has a body of flesh and bones as tangible as man's.
Pure Nicene trinitarianism imported into Restoration theology. Joseph Smith's First Vision is the single most decisive refutation of this claim in religious history โ€” two separate, distinct beings appeared. D&C 130:22 removes all ambiguity.

"Elohim" as a singular name

A proper name for the Father โ€” used interchangeably with "Heavenly Father" in institutional church language
Elohim is a Hebrew plural โ€” literally "gods" or "governing ones." It designates the Council, not a single being. Using it as a singular proper name for the Father erases the governing plurality Joseph restored.
The institutional church adopted Elohim as a singular name for the Father in the same 1916 exposition that made Jehovah = Jesus. Both moves served the same purpose: walking back the doctrine of the Council. Both introduced confusion that remains unresolved in the mainstream curriculum.

"Worship how you feel is right"

Doctrinal relativism โ€” whatever feels spiritually authentic to you is valid worship
Faith requires a precisely known object. Sincerity directed at an unidentified being is not faith โ€” it is sentiment. Sentiment cannot frame worlds, move mountains, or operate at the Celestial frequency.
This is not theology โ€” it is the complete abandonment of theology. The Lectures on Faith were written specifically to address this: "Without a knowledge of his character and attributes, no man can exercise faith in God unto life and salvation." You cannot pray effectively to a being you cannot name.

Who We Pray To and How

Address: The Father โ€” Michael-Ahman, our immediate Paternal authority and the head of our Race.

Mechanism: In the name of Son Ahman โ€” the legal citation of the standing he established as Mediator, which you invoke to approach the Father.

Confirmation: The Holy Ghost โ€” the shared intelligence of the Father and Son, which witnesses when the circuit is complete and your alignment is received.

Not to Jesus. Not to Jehovah directly. Not to a nameless warmth-concept. To the Father, through the Son, confirmed by the Spirit โ€” each element identified, each relationship specified.
